Black Belt Profiles

Name: Ian Newey

Current Grade: 2nd Dan

Training Clubs: Streetly-Walmley-Four Oaks

TKD Achievements:

I have to say one of my biggest achievements was regaining my fitness level. Before I started training I had become slightly overweight, lost all flexibility and motivationally I had completely given up on exercise.

Having previously trained in Judo and Karate, I was looking for a new challenge and I can still remember my first class as if it was yesterday. Four and a half years later I have finally reached my 1st Dan Black Belt.

Since I’ve been training I have picked up Gold and Silver medals at the 2008 Bytomic Tournament and in 2007 I won the Best Senior award in the Sutton TKD Sparathon (charity event in support of Birmingham Childrens Hospital).

Future Goals:

My aim is to keep training and progress through the Dan grades for as long as my body lets me.

As I enjoy helping other students develop and improve their TKD, I would like to gain more experience in coaching wherever possible as part of my own personal development.
